Jon is born to Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen. After Lyanna Stark dies, her brother, Ned Stark, calls the child his bastard son in order to protect him.

Jon makes the decision to join the Night’s Watch. Jon is frustrated that he does not get selected to be a ranger, and is instead appointed personal steward to the Lord Commander Jeor Mormont.
Jon learns that his father Ned Stark has been excecuted for treason by King Joffery. He wants revenge, but decides to stay at the Wall and fulfill his vow to the Night's Watch.
Jon ventures north of the Wall and is taken captive by Wildlings. He poses as a trader in order to save himself from excecution.
Jon is forced to climb the Wall as a part of a Wildling mission to attack the Night's Watch. He nearly dies doing so. After he crosses, he successfully reunites himself with the Watch.
After surviving multiple battles as well as successfully negotiating treaties, Jon is voted leader of the Night's Watch. He becomes the first to ever make peace with the Wildlings.
Jon is assasinated by angry members of the Watch. Melisandre uses her magic to make Jon come back to life. Those that killed him are hanged.
Jon leaves the Night's Watch. After a quick reunion with his sister Sansa, he is pulled to save his brother at the Battle of the Bastards. He is able to survive a losing battle thanks to last minute aid to Sansa and her allies. Jon is named King in the North.
Jon meets Daenerys Targaryen and her dragons. They travel North of the Wall and are nearly killed by White Walkers. Jon bends the knee to Dany in exchange for her support in the war against the undead.
Jon forms a romantic relationship with Dany, just before he discovers his true identity, making him heir to the throne and Dany's nephew.
Jon and Danys troops fight the Great War against the undead. They are outnumbered, but survive after Jon's sister Arya kills the Night King.
Jon has risen in popularity thanks to his heroics and wits displayed in the War. Those of who know his secret identity begin to favor his claim to the throne. Those who do not also favor it based on his merit alone.
